The Cogon Eco-Tourism Park, encompassing 344 hectares in Barangay Cogon, Dipolog City,
stands as a prominent natural attraction featuring a replica Subanen Village, an aviary for
injured wildlife, and facilities for hiking, biking, and camping. To further enhance its appeal
and promote sustainable tourism, a redevelopment initiative—Cogon Nature Park 2.0—is
proposed.
This study employs both qualitative and quantitative-descriptive research methods, including
site familiarization, interviews with credible sources, inventory, mapping, and case studies of
related structures. The analysis of gathered data leads to the adoption of Landscape Urbanism
and Biomimicry as guiding concepts, aiming to harmonize architectural interventions with the
natural environment.
The proposed redevelopment plan envisions enhancements such as an improved Subanen
Village, a hanging bridge, expanded camping grounds, and hiking and biking trails. Additional
facilities include Subanen rental cottages, glamping cottages, a visitor’s information center, a
veterinary clinic, a restaurant and coffee shop, forest ranger stations, a flower farm and
meditation center, an observation tower, a canopy walk, and a trail for public carts to tour the
park.
By integrating these features, the project aims to foster the coexistence of people, the
environment, tourism, and culture, positioning architecture as a connecting thread. Ultimately,
Cogon Nature Park 2.0 aspires to reintroduce the existing eco-tourism park as a model for
sustainable and culturally enriched tourism development in Dipolog City.
