The study entitled “Gateway of the South: A Centralized Biophilic Integrated Terminal in Laguna” is a proposed integrated terminal that caters various modes of public transportation and includes commercial spaces to assess user needs. Despite the Philippines' rapid growth and development, transportation concerns remain difficult to resolve. The majority of Filipinos experience unsafe and stressful travel to their destinations. Most of the road travel in the Philippines is provided by public utility jeepneys (PUJs), SUVs, buses, railways, private cars, taxis, and ride-hailing services. People prefer private vehicle ownership such as passenger cars and motorcycles to crowded and sometimes unreliable public transportation. Public transportation has the potential to be part of a more environmentally friendly commuting system, but it lacks all the prerequisites to reach its potential. Some existing terminals in the country have inadequate services and facilities, making it difficult to meet the demands of commuters. Some public transportation terminals are experiencing lack of good services and facilities, which may result in overcrowding, inconvenience for some passengers, and an increase in crimes and accidents. These causes commuters to feel uncomfortable and irritated when they enter a public transportation facility. By incorporating an integrated terminal design that adheres to standards and design guidelines, it will benefit public use and be efficient for all users. Materials and elements inspired by nature, with minimal processing, represent the local ecology or geology and create a distinct sense of place. This represents the significance of nature in building design. The goal of this study is to connect biophilia to three major mind-body systems: cognitive, psychological, and physiological. These systems have been investigated and validated in laboratory and field studies to help explain how a people's environment influences their health and well-being. The researchers conducted site research and analysis, data collection and analysis, and design conceptualization. The researchers conducted site selection and visitation to take advantage of the site's various features. This will aid them in developing an effective proposal plan and design. The researchers then considered various laws, codes, and regulations to determine how the site will adapt the design proposals. They studied the sun's path and wind direction to properly position the building and spaces and provide good design for proper lighting and ventilation. They also included how the noise configuration will affect the various spaces on the site. The researchers conclude that the site is highly sustainable. Furthermore, the design proposal took user safety and security, as well as comfort and convenience, into account.
The majority of people in the country rely on public transportation. The proposal aims to provide an innovative terminal that improves users' travel experiences. Transportation services must provide necessities and architectural features while also addressing environmental impacts caused by vehicles that benefit users. The number of private vehicles in the country is increasing as a result of unreliable public transportation. Public transportation should be improved so that users have a positive experience while using it. Many vehicles can cause heavy traffic congestion on roads and increase air pollution, both of which affect people and the environment. The proposal may benefit user convenience and comfort by meeting the needs and wants of all passengers while dealing with issues in public transportation.
This study conducted on the different terminal around South Luzon and Metro Manila. One of the famous terminal is PITX. This terminal offers multiple means of land transportation and serves as a hub for PUBs, PUJs, taxis, and other utility vehicles moving to and from areas south of Metro Manila, where it is available for commuters' intercity and out-of-town travel. The designer of this terminal uses a linear plan to distribute each space while keeping important areas such as drop off, bays, seating areas, and other unaffected utilities. The spaces were interpreted based on the study conducted in the terminal. Some areas observed positive and negative effects on the end-users. The next terminal is Valenzuela Gateway Complex. The site is surrounded by residential and commercial structures. It is also near to the NLEX expressway. The plan considered the various purposes of buildings so that passengers, workers, and drivers could freely move between them. The site was maximized and organized, as evidenced by the flow of people and vehicles. Lastly, The Lucena Grand Central Terminal. The terminal serves as a stopover for buses from Bicol. Customers are also served by vans, jeepneys, and tricycles.
The project proposal is intended to be located in Turbina, Calamba City, Laguna The site is in the commercial zone of Barangay Turbina. The project site is accessible through a 6 lane two-way national highway known as the Pan-Philippine Highway. As for Calamba, it is less than a kilometer from the South Luzon Expressway. The site will be used to assess how the proposal will affect the city's public transportation. The proposal will meet the needs of the users by providing different spaces. The proposal provided an adaptable design through the use of various technologies and design considerations. Various spaces from the ocular visitation studies were incorporated into the design. Spaces combined the study's positive and negative findings. The study added spaces that can help them relax while waiting for the vehicles. One of the design's highlights is that it is both environmentally friendly and user-friendly, allowing end users to feel comfortable and have a place to relax while using the building. Biophilic design draws people closer to nature. The design included every detail that demonstrates how to connect people with nature while using it almost every day. The spaces are suitable for commercial purposes, such as restaurants, kiosks, and other necessities found outside of other buildings. It directs users to nearby necessities that can provide them with important belongings. The interior designs and space incorporated safety and considered public and private areas for users. The exterior design retains the greenery to make it more connected to nature and includes some plants that are beneficial to commuters. The spaces considered are where buses and vehicles should be placed, as well as public areas such as benches. The generalization of this study would add significantly to the body of knowledge on the development of an integrated transportation terminal.
