ABSTRACT

One of the major contributors to our market and exchange in the Philippines is the Commercial Sector, but when the pandemic hit in the first quarter of 2020, all of these businesses were left in a state of shock due to the deadly viruses and diseases, as the former president of the Philippines Rodrigo Duterte stated that, "no one was ready" for the pandemic and phenomenon especially on the facilities and other establishments. Reimagining commercial and business hubs that are pandemic ready facilities that would be able to help each business continue operating even in the midst of a pandemic within the proposed project through the Economic Architecture.

The proposed project is made up of different commercial entities, including supermarkets, a mall, offices, and condominiums/condotel, each of which can support the others' continued operation. The proponent proposed a Arquitectura Mestiza themed Business Park through Architecture for Optimism for Post-Pandemic Society that will function as a trading and commercial center for businesses with pandemic ready solutions, increasing business opportunities and heritage conservation for the City of Mabalacat.

Nature is what makes our world a perfect place for all of us, but because the contemporary environment provides us with employment and possibilities, connecting to it appears difficult for us. The researchers proposed the “SaliJuan” as the city's main Commercial Park using Arquitectura Mestiza Theme biophilic design approach, where it may assist, provide opportunities and connect people to nature.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

Mabalacat City is one of the three cities in the province of Pampanga, however its declaration to become a city was spontaneously compared to its neighbor cities like San Fernando and Angeles City. Considering that reason, the economic and business growth of the city is being left behind compared to its neighbor cities.

As stated in the 2017- 2026 Comprehensive Land Use Plan (CLUP) of Mabalacat City, its local economy relies heavily on its micro, small and medium enterprise (MSMEs) which are at risk of incurring losses due to competition with bigger enterprises that enter the city or located nearby localities and adjacent communities.

Problems:

Decentralization of commercial and business hubs

Maximization of Land Use

Growth of Unemployment

Lack of business Infrastructure

Existing diseases, Pandemic and Phenomenon

Traffic Congestion

Opportunities:

Road Network

Attract more Business and Economic opportunities within the city

Progress to the growing City

Job Opportunities

GOALS AND OBJECTIVES

In compliance with the Architectural Thesis Goals, the following are the goals and objectives of the proposed project:

To centralize the Business District City of the Mabalacat

Strategies:

The proposed project will serve as a model and an inspiration for other structures that will be built in the future. In order to prevent decentralization, the business park will implement every architecturally feasible solution, including making the most of available space, finding a better flow and circulation system to alleviate traffic congestion for both people and vehicles, and suggesting new features for the structures.

To provide jobs for the people of Mabalacat City and its nearby cities and municipalities

Strategies:

Some regions' economies suffered as a result of the pandemic. As an outcome of the pandemic's difficult situation, some people lost their jobs. The business park will provide people with hope and opportunities, as well as benefit nearby cities and municipalities, as well as Mabalacat residents. It is a great opportunity for people looking for work.

To promote heritage architecture through Arquitectura Mestiza

Strategies:

Buildings and other structures are currently overlooking the significance of architectural design. Some of this has a significant impact on the building's design. Promoting heritage architecture will serve as a guide and lead to the restoration and preservation of historical designs.

To Reimagine Business Park and offices workspaces through application of theme

Strategies:

Economic Architecture focuses on structural innovations that harness the power of the market to improve the quality and character of people's lives.

DESIGN CONCEPTS

The project is conceptualized through the application of the theme "Architecture Reimagine", which aims to reimagine spaces, particularly offices and commercial spaces, of the proposed business park by applying the architectural solutions through the following: Vision, Building Innovation, Sustainability, Building Technology, and Heritage Conservation. Through the architectural style of Arquitectura Mestiza as a theme to the business park as its distinction. Through modernity and the advancement of new building technology, the application of these materials will be an asset to the project, securing the future through architectural solutions and innovations to be ready for any calamities and pandemics by the Architecture of Optimism for a Post-Pandemic Society. An architectural solution focuses on one’s wellness and future proofing.

DESIGN INSPIRATION

Arquitectura Mestiza - The term "Arquitectura Mestiza" refers to a hybrid architecture, also called "mixed architecture." These houses that were made with mixed architectural styles were later called “Ancestral Houses”. It was designed specifically to protect people from the risks associated with fire and earthquakes. This explains why the ground floor's flooring was constructed of stone and the higher floors' flooring was made of wood. The "bahay-na-bato" was later built with the intention of minimizing threats from cyclones along with fire and earthquake once the Spanish colonized the Philippines.

Economic Architecture - focuses on structural innovations that harness the power of the market to improve the quality and character of people’s lives. Mixed-use establishments that are able to help each business continue operating even in the midst of a pandemic within the proposed project through the Economic Architecture.

DESIGN GOALS AND OBJECTIVE

The design goal of the project is to build a Premiere Business Park that would function as the center complex for businesses in the City of Mabalacat through Economic Architecture and with the design theme of Arquitectura Mestiza, in line with this goal this includes the following design objectives, this includes:

1. To create a Business Park that will cater the business/ investors in the region, city and nearby municipalities.
