Philippine Space Agency and Visitor's Complex: Application of Science Branches In Space Planning and Design
The construction of the proposed Philippine Space Agency in the Philippines shall give many benefits concerning military, environmental monitoring, disaster assessment and the national defense sectors. Not only does Philippines presents to be left behind in relation to space faring in the South East Asia, but also it lacks awareness to space science. Thus, the establishment of the proposed development could also form a new government typology that shall promote space awareness in the place.(Sacbibit, 2017)
Thorough gathering of data and interviewing people and organizations related to the project has been done to ensure the right outcome of the proposal. One of the interviews was conducted with the DOST-PCIEERD, Dr. Sese, who promotes for the project to push through. Interview as one the methodologies in gathering data, determines the considerations on site selection and possible location of the project.
The Philippines is a good spaceport because it is near to the equator, for this reason fuel can be saved. The proposed project development shall be located at Mariveles, Bataan, due to its strategic location. Given that the site does not situate on a fault line, has a 450-meter distance away from residential areas, has a near proximity to a seaport therefore situated near a large body of water, the construction of the proposed project suffices the requirements of DOST agency in order to attain success in the development. Staff and spaces related to the project was based on case studies and the given adequate information by DOST. The number of visitors that shall be accommodated by the visitors’ complex was based on the population projection traveling to Mariveles in the year 2022. The accumulation of the number of visitors was done in order to give light and awareness in relation to promoting space science.
Science gradually develops as time passes by. This supports the need of a project that adapts to the present and ever-changing needs of science innovation. With the correlation of principles in branches of science, such as astronomy at physics, the researcher shall create a new means and approach with regards to planning and designing in the field of architecture.
SEQUENCE OF SPACES
The sequence that is based on what is needed first and what to be
followed next is the plan of the DOST for this project. (Sacbibit, 2017) This
plan of the DOST is also considered in this concept to make it organized.
What will be the rhythm of the sequence or increase of the needs of this project will be inspired or influenced by the painting of Sarah Morris. Sarah Morris paints an abstract but the shapes or sizes that she paints are in sequence for her to show to the viewers that there is a sequence of ways to form the suggestive shape in the painting. In the project of this thesis will be also shown that there is a possible sequence to achieve the goals of the DOST to happen in this project and to achieve the adaptability of the structure on the site.
The structure will fit the needs and will base on the approach that is needed in the project. One of the ideas of adapting to the needs is the idea of the DOST that is the stammered increase of the needs of this project and the idea of NASA that the structure will still adapt to the look of future needs of the project. (NASA, 2012)
The complex will adapt on environment, needs, function and building typology. In simpler words, the building will inspire to adjust on grow of need because the need and scientific advancement in space science will always progress.
The budget of the project shall be funded by selected members of APRSAF in cooperation with JAXA. The project suggests to be non-profit, and focuses for the betterment of the majority.
To conclude and reiterate, the concept of the project was mainly based on chosen principles of astronomy and physics, and the principle of adaptability with regards to the environment and also to the anticipated introduction of new functions and spaces through time.
